Big Enough House

Florence, MA

Like many architects, JWA’s staff is concerned about the looming crisis in affordable housing availability and has committed volunteered energy to numerous projects exploring affordable housing in our local communities.  In 2011, Dorrie Brooks and Kristian Whitsett participated in a small house design competition (Small House/Big Ideas) that led to a project, coordinated by Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity, to build the “Big Enough House” test house in Florence, Massachusetts on a budget of 50K (after foundation costs).  In the summer of 2018, JWA’s entire staff showed up on site to see this dignified 600sf home completed.
