Brooks aims to use her term to advocate for policy and investment in deep energy retrofits of existing buildings , the missing piece of Massachusett’s ambitious climate agenda. Brooks successfully led a 2022 legislative effort to account for the energy use and indoor environmental conditions of existing public schools across the state. She looks forward to continuing the press for greater accounting of energy waste in the existing building sector.
“Over the past four years I have learned how essential it is to have architects and engineers at the table as public policy is written. The next decade will be a decade of dramatic environmental and social upheaval, but also of scientific break-throughs in building technologies. We can’t assume that building science can advocate for itself. We have to do that work.”
