Creelman House
Deerfield, MA. | 2021
Historic Deerfield acquired the neighboring property known as Creelman House for use as a dormitory for its Summer Fellows program, hiring JWA to lead its restoration. This historic residence was built originally in 1730 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as contributing property in the Old Deerfield Historic District.
JWA’s approach preserves the build’s original character while providing dormitory accommodations, handicapped access, improved energy efficiency and fire safety. Work includes new roofs, chimney reconstruction, and repair of several porches and decks. New insulation and building systems, including all new mechanical, electrical, and fire suppression, will reduce operating costs and improve thermal comfort. Many features of the 1730s section of the home were restored, including 27 original multi-pane windows, wide pine flooring, fireplace trim and other original elements.
