Fabos/Sumun House

Anita Fabos and Karim Sumun were excited to find an affordable 1940’s ranch just a block from their child’s school but were disheartened by the home’s drafty windows, high energy bills and awkward spaces. JWA worked with Anita and Karim through a multi-phased deep-energy retrofit that transformed their ranch into an elegant and comfortable home influenced by Anita’s Scandinavian heritage. The retrofit included re-insulating the existing stud walls with 3 ½” dense pack cellulose and adding 2 ½” of rock wool insulation on the exterior below a new rain screen. The interior changes included replacement of windows and doors, selective wall removal and stair re-design, and the complete renovation and refinishing of bathrooms, breezeway and kitchen.
