Forbes Library

It was an honor to be selected to work on Forbes Library, a historic and cultural landmark in downtown Northampton, Massachusetts. This impressive Richardsonian Romanesque library has served the community since its dedication in 1894. In 2018, JWA lead two projects to improve the building’s performance including upgrading the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and refurbishing the existing windows. The first project provided a separate HVAC system and climate control for the Calvin Coolidge Presidential Library and local archives. The second project involved the full rehabilitation of the library’s historic windows. The refurbished historic wood windows reduce air infiltration, improve energy performance, increase sound isolation, and improve occupant comfort while preserving the original character and conserving their embodied energy.
