Northampton Net Zero Elementary Schools

The City of Northampton has committed to becoming a Net Zero Community by 2050 in alignment with climate goals established by the Northampton City Council. To facilitate this transition, the City is in the process of evaluating its existing building portfolio and creating Net Zero Capital Improvement Plans for each of its municipal and public school buildings.

In 2022 Northampton hired Jones Whitsett Architects to develop capital improvement plans for three of the City’s elementary schools: Bridge Street Elementary, Jackson Street Elementary, and Leeds Elementary. The final report (2022-09-26_Noho NetZero Report.pdf) provides an assessment of the existing buildings, energy analysis of alternative paths to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions, a final proposal for reaching net zero and information about an interactive planning tool JWA created to help the Northampton Public Schools sequence the projects over coming decades.
